Crop Damage Indicators by SO©üEmmission and the Method of Economic Compensation

Abstract
This study was performed to investigate the plant injury indicators and to develop a method of economic compensation by S0_(2) gas emission. The study area was in the vicinity of Boryong, Seochon, Samcheonpo and Yongdong thermal power plants. There were fairly high degree of positive correlations between the S0_(2) pollution strength(SO_(2) concentration in the air X field exposure time) and the leaf injury index, between the SO_(2) pollution strength and water soluble sulfur content, and between water-soluble sulfur content and the leaf injury index. However, there was no such linear relationship between S0_(2) concentration in the air and the chlorophyll and leaf protein content in the leaf. Based upon correlation equations between the SO_(2) pollution strength and the yield damage index, iso-yield-damage was made in a map. The slope of the correlation equation was used to indicate the sensitivity of the crop to the SO_(2) pollution and the results were relatively in good accord with other study results. An equation calculating the amount of economic compensation due to crop damage was proposed. The farm managment evaluation criteria was taken into account in the equation. For the economic compensation of orchards, a concept of cummulative damage was presented.
